Though it would be easy to simply relax and watch the world go by over the next two days – and we wouldn’t blame you if you did! – there will also be plenty of opportunities to explore the bay. You might like to rent kayaks for a bit of independent discovery, go for a swim at one of the beautiful beaches, have a go at squid fishing or disembark to visit the remarkable floating villages that shelter in the lee of the island’s many rocky outcrops.
Dinner will be served on board your vessel, as you watch the sun go down over the water.

After a few hours cruising through the bay, we will return to the harbour in the late morning and drive to the airport for our flight south to Hue.
On arrival in Hue, we will check in to our hotel overlooking the Perfume River and have the rest of the evening at leisure.
Hue was the seat of the Nguyen Emperors from 1802 until 1945, and during this time Vietnam’s royal family built a great Citdel and an Imperial Palace modelled on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Despite suffering major damage during the American-Vietnamese War, much of these beautiful, traditional buildings have survived, and your tour leader will be able to give you some historical insight on a guided tour on day five.
After an introduction to the Citadel, you will take a cyclo tour through the Old Town to the Perfume River, where you will board a boat and sail upstream to the Thien Mu Pagoda, the symbol of Hue.
The afternoon on day five will be at leisure, and your tour leader will have plenty of excellent suggestions as to how to spend your time.
If you would like fishing in Hue, please mention this to us at the time of booking !
Day 12-13: Hoi An old town (B/L)
After a leisurely start to the day we will head onward to the historic port town of Hoi An, stopping en route at the excellent Cham Museum in Danang.
The journey to Hoi An is via a beautiful stretch of road known as the Pass of Ocean Clouds for the mists that rise from the sea. Hoi An is an ancient trading port whose pedestrianised streets are packed with the influence of centuries of foreign trade. Our hotel is located right on the edge of the Old Town, so you will be ideally placed to head out for some exploration starting with a guided walking tour of the old streets this afternoon .
On day seven you will have the entire day at leisure to enjoy the many charms of this UNESCO World Heritage city. For many, just sitting at one of the riverside cafés and watching the world go by is ample entertainment – but for the more active, cookery classes, cycle rides, and excursions to the nearby ruins of My Son can all be arranged. Just talk to your tour leader to find out what is available.
Day 14-15: Ho Chi Minh city (B/L)
Spend two nights in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam and one of the best places in which to learn about the war era.
This morning we continue our journey south with a flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s most energetic and electric city. After checking in to our centrally located hotel, you will have an afternoon at leisure to begin exploring the many fascinating sights that lie within easy walking distance of your accommodation.
For those with an interest in the sombre events of the Vietnam War, your tour leader will arrange an optional visit this afternoon to the Cu Chi Tunnels, a remarkable network of underground passages that once formed a part of a nationwide system of supply lines and bomb shelters. At the tunnels, you’ll learn about the guerrilla fighting tactics of the Viet Cong, see some of the booby traps they laid for US forces, and creep through their tunnels for a sense of what life must have been like as a resistance fighter.
On your return to Saigon, your tour leader will take you on a walking tour of some of the city’s famous sights, including Ben Thanh Market.
On day nine, we will leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city and head out for a leisurely day of boating on the Mekong Delta, where the great river branches out into numerous smaller waterways and feeds into the sea. We will board the Ben Tre in the morning and sail downriver past jungle and heavily-laden rice barges to the Mango Home Riverside, where we will stop in for a home-cooked lunch.
After lunch we’ll explore some of the surrounding area, walking or cycling through the villages and fruit orchards and paying visits to some of the craft workshops nearby. In the late afternoon, we will disembark and return to Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 16-17: Angkor Wat – Siem Reap (B/L)
We wave farewell to Vietnam this morning and take the short flight over the border to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
After completing customs and immigration procedures, we will meet our local guide and drive the short distance to town, where we check in and freshen up before our afternoon adventure commences.
Travelling in local style by tuk tuk, our first stop will be the iconic Angkor Wat, the pride and joy of Cambodia. Constructed in the 12th century at the height of the Khmer Empire, it is the largest religious monument in the world – and continues to function as a Buddhist temple to this day. Visiting in the late afternoon will give us a chance to enjoy the temple after the bulk of the tourist crowds have dispersed, as the sun casts its golden light on the miles of beautiful bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
The day concludes in magical style with a sunset boat ride on the great moat of Angkor Thom, with drinks and canapés included.
On day 11, we will get an early start in order to arrive at the temple of Pre Rup before the rest of the crowds. Here, you’ll be certain of a relatively crowd-free sunrise – just as beautiful as at Angkor Wat, but much less busy. Later we will also pay a visit to the “Tomb Raider Temple”, Ta Prohm, and the last great capital of the Khmer Empire, Angkor Thom – famous for the giant stone faces of Bayon Temple.
The afternoon is yours to explore further or relax by the hotel pool, before concluding our day with a visit to the Phare Circus – a modern, energetic performance that’s sure to provide an unexpected highlight of your time in Siem Reap! Dinner will be included this evening.
On the morning of day 12 we will discover the secrets of Khmer cuisine with a half-day cooking class run by a popular local chef. We start with a walk through a local market to learn about the vegetables, herbs, spices and other ingredients used in Khmer cuisine, before returning to the school to learn how to prepare these dishes with the restaurant owner. For lunch, we’ll be sampling the fruits of our labours!
After lunch we will head out of town to one of our favourite temples, the exquisite Banteay Srei. The temple is carved of pink sandstone, unique in the Angkor area, and is covered in carvings and bas-reliefs of the most remarkable detail. Less frequently visited than many of the central temples, this is a thoroughly recommended visit.
Day 18-19:Phnom Penh (B/L)
Conclude your trip in Phnom Penh, a city whose colonial beauty earned it the nickname “Pearl of the Orient”.
A short flight brings us south to Cambodia’s modern capital, Phnom Penh. The city was once considered amongst the most beautiful in the Orient, and despite its recent turbulent history it still retains a colonial charm. Today we will gain an insight into a more ancient and illustrious history as we explore the collection of Khmer art, archaeology and religious artefacts at the National Museum. Following this you will continue to the Royal Palace, which was the last palace built during the French colonial period. It also houses the Silver Pagoda, named for the over 5,000 heavy silver tiles that cover its floors. We will finish with a visit to Wat Phnom, the founding place of the city. For those who are interested a visit to Tuol Sleng, a former school-turned-prison that now serves as a museum of the Khmer Rouge genocide, can be arranged.
This evening, we will finish the tour with a farewell dinner at Romdeng, a celebrated restaurant that trains local street children in cookery and hospitality.
Our grand adventure concludes on the morning of day 14, and after bidding a fond farewell to the group, you will be accompanied back to Phnom Penh Airport in time for your onward flight home.
